Pea Salad with Bacon, Cheddar Cheese and Red Onions

Pea salad is a fast, delicious side dish that can be whipped up fast and no cooking required. I often make pea salad as a light lunch for a day on the beach. I will pack my cooler with ice, a couple waters, bowl of pea salad nestled in the ice along with some fresh fruit and a good book. Pea salad is also a tasty side dish on those days you really want a fast side dish to pair with your dinner. Here is the view of my day on the beach at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. An absolutely breathtaking day.

If you can stir, this recipe will be so easy and fast that will reward you with a creamy, flavorful, peas salad with red onions, bacon and cheese and it is so colorful, which makes me happy! This is a perfect fast salad to take to gatherings, you just might want to double up the recipe and as it gets gobbled up fast. Cold pea salad is loaded with flavors and so easy to have a second helping.

This cold salad loaded with peas, bacon, red onions and cheddar cheese is a great to serve with fried fish, grilled burgers or chicken, BBQ or have as a light lunch.


Store in sealed container in the refrigerator up to three days. I doubt it will last that long but just in case.

Pea salad is a colorful, tasty cold salad loaded with bacon, cheddar cheese and diced red onions. Perfect no cooking involved side dish or light lunch. 



Frozen sweet peas 16oz bag

6 to 8 slices cooked crispy bacon, chop into desired size Oven baked bacon Perfect Sheet Pan Oven Bacon – SeaSide Table

Cheddar cheese 1 cup

Red Onions 1/2 cup

Mayonnaise 1 cup


Pour the frozen peas into a stainer and run cold water over the frozen peas for a couple minutes to thaw.

Dump the thawed peas on a kitchen towel or paper towels to absorb any remaining liquid.

In a mixing bowl, add the mayo, bacon, cheddar cheese and diced red onions and mix together. Gently stir in the thawed peas. Seal the mixing bowl with press and seal or plastic wrap and but in the refrigerator.

Chill for 2 hours or overnight to blend flavors.
